Assam gave land titles to 4,673 tribal families, expanding rights under the Forest Rights Act.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed land title certificates to 4,673 tribal families from the Garo, Rabha, Bodo, and Karbi communities in Kamrup district, fulfilling commitments under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, during Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebrations.
The state has reclaimed over 1.45 lakh bighas of encroached forest land since 2021 and expanded the Basundhara scheme to allow up to 50 bighas per family, up from seven, with around 1.5 lakh families now holding land pattas.
The government also converted about 600 villages to cadastral status to support claims and reserved key assembly constituencies for Scheduled Tribes.
