Inspectors denied Sheep Hey Farm’s appeal to build a manure lagoon, citing insufficient evidence and environmental concerns.
Government inspectors have rejected an appeal to build a slurry lagoon at Sheep Hey Farm in Shuttleworth, upholding a prior council decision.
The farm sought the 30m by 20m lagoon to store manure and fertiliser, reducing costs for 400 cows across nearby holdings.
Inspectors found insufficient evidence supporting the need, particularly regarding green belt impact, and dismissed claims the site qualified as "grey belt" land.
Concerns included the lagoon’s size, potential odour, fencing, and unassessed visual effects on nearby homes.
Without adequate proof the project would protect residents’ quality of life, the appeal was denied.
The lagoon will not be built.
