India launches largest green hydrogen plant, producing 3,800 tons annually to decarbonize steelmaking.
JSW Energy has launched India’s largest green hydrogen plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, producing 3,800 tons annually of green hydrogen and 30,000 tons of green oxygen for use in steelmaking.
The facility, part of the government’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and SIGHT program, supplies a steelmaker’s Direct Reduced Iron unit under a seven-year agreement.
JSW Energy plans to scale output to 85,000–90,000 tons of hydrogen and 720,000 tons of oxygen yearly by 2030, supporting India’s goal of 5 million tons of annual green hydrogen production.
The project advances efforts to decarbonize heavy industry and expand renewable energy infrastructure.
