Grab tests high-precision GPS in Singapore to boost navigation accuracy for drivers and delivery partners.
Grab has launched a pilot program in Singapore using advanced lane-level GPS technology to improve navigation accuracy for drivers and delivery partners.
Developed with Oppo, Qualcomm, and Swift Navigation, the system uses dual-frequency GNSS on Oppo’s Find N5 phone, real-time corrections via Qualcomm’s platform, and cloud-based atmospheric modeling with Singapore’s SiReNT network.
It aims to reduce GPS errors in dense urban areas, where standard signals can drift over 20 meters, leading to better pickup accuracy, more reliable ETAs, and fewer cancellations.
The technology, comparable to that used in autonomous vehicles, may expand to Grab’s Karta devices and enhance mapping for underground areas.
