EU agrees to simplify farming rules, cut inspections, boost small farm support starting Jan 1, 2026.
EU member states and the European Parliament have reached a provisional agreement to simplify the Common Agricultural Policy, reducing regulatory burdens on farmers by easing environmental requirements, limiting on-site inspections to once a year, and increasing support for small farms.
The reform, set to take effect January 1, 2026, includes higher subsidies for smallholders and automatic compliance for organic farmers, with the goal of saving up to €1.6 billion annually.
The changes follow farmer protests and aim to enhance competitiveness amid global trade pressures.
The deal must still be formally approved by the EU Council and Parliament.
