EAC's trade rose 28% in Q2 2025, exports surged 40.5%, inflation at 22.7% in June.
The East African Community's international merchandise trade rose 28.4% in Q2 2025 to $38.2 billion, driven by a 40.5% surge in exports to $18.6 billion, while imports increased 18.8% to $19.6 billion, narrowing the trade deficit to $0.9 billion.
Trade with African nations grew 42.9% to $9.3 billion, and intra-EAC trade rose 24.5% to $4.6 billion.
Exports of copper, precious stones, coffee, tea, and mineral fuels accounted for nearly 80% of total exports.
Inflation remained high, with the EAC's annual headline rate at 22.7% in June 2025, down slightly from May but well above the previous year's 13.7%.
