Cork City starts street warden pilot to improve safety and business in city center.
Cork City has launched a pilot program with four street wardens patrolling the city center to boost safety, support businesses, and improve the public experience amid rising crime.
The wardens, who began work recently, act as community ambassadors, addressing issues like litter and graffiti and coordinating with local agencies, though they have no enforcement powers.
Funded by the Department of Justice and Cork City Council, the initiative follows a CBA proposal and was delayed from its original Q3 2025 launch.
The Tánaiste has also called for a city center taskforce to tackle vacancy, infrastructure, and safety challenges, urging its inclusion in the government’s housing plan.
