A Beijing play about Qing scholar Zheng Banqiao, praising his integrity and compassion, debuted Nov. 3, 2025, and will tour China.

A new play about Qing Dynasty scholar Zheng Banqiao premiered in Beijing on November 3, 2025, highlighting his integrity, empathy for the poor, and artistic legacy, particularly his bamboo paintings symbolizing moral strength. The production, featuring poetry, calligraphy, and symbolic donkey puppets from a legendary tale of his humble departure, portrays his decision to open granaries during a famine despite opposition. Co-produced by Beijing Poly Theatre Management Co., it aims to convey timeless values of justice and service. After its debut, the play will tour Weifang, Yantai, and Hangzhou.
