flag Wen Liangfu, a former Chinese ballroom champion, helped make Shenzhen’s World Cup Universal Open Dance Festival a major Asian event.

Wen Liangfu, a former Chinese national ballroom dance champion, has become a key figure in advancing ballroom and Latin dance across Asia since the 1980s. Inspired by a single performance, he rose to prominence through national competitions and two Lotus Awards with his wife, Sun Rong. After retiring in 2004, he focused on teaching, mentoring, and co-authoring a technical manual. As president of the Guangdong Dance Sport Council and lead organizer of the annual World Cup Universal Open Dance Festival in Shenzhen, he has helped establish one of Asia’s premier dance events. The 2025 festival, now in its seventh year, drew participants from nearly 40 countries across professional, amateur, and beginner categories, emphasizing inclusivity, skill development, and global cultural exchange with support from top international judges.
