A 47-year-old Singaporean National Environment Agency (NEA) verification officer, Abdul Salam Jahabar Sadiq, was charged on November 10, 2025, with accepting approximately $21,000 in bribes from 10 individuals linked to funeral and cemetery service providers.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) alleges the bribes, given as loans between 2022 and 2023, were intended to influence Salam not to report malpractices by contractors.
He faces 10 charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, each carrying a potential fine of up to $100,000, up to five years in prison, or both, with doubled penalties for two combined charges.
Salam, a Singapore permanent resident from India, has been suspended by NEA, which reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on corruption.
His next court appearance is scheduled for November 13, 2025.
