Scotland’s Hagshaw Hill wind farm repowered with 14 new turbines, boosting power output fivefold and increasing community funding significantly.
Scotland’s first commercial wind farm, Hagshaw Hill in South Lanarkshire, has been repowered with 14 larger turbines, increasing its output fivefold to over 79 megawatts—enough to power about 57,000 homes.
The upgrade, completed by ScottishPower Renewables, created over 100 jobs and recycled old turbine blades into construction materials, cutting carbon emissions.
The community benefit fund now provides nearly £400,000 annually—26 times more than before—to support local projects in Coalburn, Douglas, Lesmahagow, Rigside, and Douglas Water for the next 25 years.
