Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accelerated Pakistan’s transition to a cashless economy, emphasizing its role in sustainable growth, transparency, and reduced corruption.
During a review meeting, he directed expanded digital awareness campaigns, especially in rural areas, and highlighted key achievements: successful digital transfers of Benazir Income Support Programme benefits during Ramadan, the use of Raast QR codes for utility payments, and the activation of 10 million BISP digital wallets—set to be fully operational by November 2025.
The government has integrated digital payments into business licensing in Islamabad, linked mobile government services to the Raast system, and is issuing digital bank licenses to boost financial inclusion, now at over 68% of the population.
The meeting included top officials from finance, IT, revenue, central banking, and national registration bodies, with targets set for continued progress.
