Labubu, a Chinese collectible doll, is now China’s most globally recognized pop culture IP, per a new report.
Labubu, a collectible doll by Chinese company Pop Mart, has been named China’s most globally recognized pop culture IP, according to a report from the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies released at the World Internet Conference.
Analyzing data from November 2024 to September 2025 across 4,000+ global platforms, the report ranked Labubu first among top Chinese online cultural exports, followed by films "Dead To Rights" and "Ne Zha 2," and the game "Where Winds Meet."
Success is attributed to emotionally engaging stories and high-quality content that resonate universally, rather than overt messaging.
Key local cultural phenomena gaining global attention include Chengdu’s World Games, Chongqing’s urban blend of tradition and modernity, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin.
