Former Big Sky fire chief charged with stealing $80K via fake receipts and personal expenses.
Former Big Sky deputy fire chief Seth Barker faces felony theft and official misconduct charges for allegedly stealing about $80,000 over several years by misusing a department credit card for personal expenses, including vacations, personal training, and services linked to romantic relationships.
Prosecutors say he submitted duplicate receipts for reimbursements, claimed department wages for outside consulting work, and used his official email to contact escorts, sometimes while on duty.
A forensic audit confirmed unauthorized charges and financial discrepancies, prompting a criminal investigation that began in January 2024.
Barker, who formed a consulting business in 2019, has not responded to requests for comment.
The case is pending in Gallatin County District Court.
