Eleven-year-old Chance Kwidzinski of Sherwood, Wisconsin, has turned his family’s restaurant, The Shanty Bar & Grill in Hilbert, into a holiday donation hub, collecting gas and grocery gift cards for families of children receiving care at Children’s Wisconsin.
Inspired by a desire to help, Chance earned $240 working at the restaurant and used it to adopt a sick child through the Giving Tree program.
His family expanded the effort, and so far, 14 gift cards have been donated, with a goal of 20 more by December 1.
Donations of $10 or more for retailers like Kwik Trip and Walmart are accepted in person at the restaurant through December 1.
Chance, motivated by his younger brother’s autism and sensory challenges, plans to continue the initiative annually.
