Former world champion shearer John Kirkpatrick won the Open shearing title for the 15th time, narrowly beating Gavin Mutch. Over 130 shearers and woolhandlers competed, and family pets took part in fun events like biscuit-catching and bark-up contests. The show highlighted regional agriculture and community traditions, with plans for future events in Wairoa and Dannevirke. Waipukurau also prepares to host the Waipukurau Cup race meeting next Sunday, marking the return of horse racing to the region after a 13-month pause.
