flag An Australian high school heifer, Fergie, won top prize at a major livestock show after students raised her from birth.

A Charolais x Red Angus heifer named Fergie, raised by Muswellbrook High School students in Australia, won champion prime heifer at the 2025 Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza, one of the nation’s largest livestock events. Purchased for educational purposes in April, Fergie earned a highly commended ribbon in live carcass assessment but scored 82.11 on the hook in the chiller class due to perfect fat cover and a strong eye muscle area. Students trained her from birth in handling, halter-breaking, and grooming, and she previously competed at the Quirindi Spring Show. Multiple students showcased her over the weekend, highlighting her calm temperament. The event featured over 700 entries and 400 student participants.
