Actor Gary Sinise donated $1M to turn a Nashville church into a 24/7 arts center for veterans to heal through creativity.
Actor Gary Sinise has donated $1 million to CreatiVets, a nonprofit founded by Marine Corps veteran Richard Casper, to help purchase and renovate an abandoned Nashville church into a 24-hour arts center for veterans.
The center aims to provide a safe space where veterans can use music, painting, theater, and other creative activities to cope with PTSD and emotional distress, especially during late-night crises.
The building, vandalized shortly after purchase, had been vacant since 2017.
Sinise’s support, inspired by similar programs in Chicago, helped secure the property and spurred additional donations and volunteer efforts, including restoring damaged stained glass.
Veterans like retired master sergeant David Booth say the program has been more therapeutic than traditional counseling, helping them process trauma through art.
