Vietnam began building 72 new boarding schools in 17 provinces on Nov. 9, 2025, to boost education access for rural and ethnic minority students by 2026.
On November 9, 2025, Vietnam launched construction on 72 inter-level boarding schools in 17 provinces, part of a national plan to build 248 such schools by 2028 in remote border communes.
The initiative, funded with nearly 20 trillion VND ($760 million), aims to improve educational access for ethnic minority and rural students facing geographic and economic barriers.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Education Minister Nguyen Kim Son attended ceremonies in Thanh Hoa and Lai Chau, with additional events held remotely in areas affected by Typhoon Kalmaegi.
The schools, designed for primary and junior secondary levels, are set for completion by August 2026 to serve the 2026–2027 academic year, following a July 2025 Politburo directive and a September 2025 government resolution.
