UN backs Pakistan-led resolutions on nuclear security after India-Pakistan clash.
The UN General Assembly’s First Committee adopted four resolutions led by Pakistan on disarmament, nuclear security assurances, and confidence-building, with broad international support.
The moves follow a May 2025 military clash between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, triggered by a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in around 70 deaths and ended after 87 hours with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
The resolutions reinforce global commitments to negative security assurances and regional arms control, highlighting growing international focus on crisis prevention amid gaps in diplomatic channels between the two neighbors.
The measures now advance to the full UN General Assembly for final approval.
