Supreme Court splits on appeal over Bangalore ISKCON temple ownership, leaving status unsettled.
The Supreme Court delivered a split decision on a review petition challenging its May 2025 ruling that affirmed the Bengaluru ISKCON chapter’s ownership of its temple complex under the Karnataka Societies Act.
A two-judge bench, including Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Augustine George Masih, disagreed: one allowed the petition for a hearing, the other dismissed it, finding no error in the original judgment.
The May 2025 ruling had overturned a 2011 High Court decision that favored Mumbai’s claim, relying on documentary evidence showing Bengaluru’s independence since 1978.
The case has been referred to the Chief Justice of India for further direction, leaving the temple’s legal status unresolved.
