Slovakia’s PM Fico opposes using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine aid unless formally confiscated, stalling EU-wide loan plans.
Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico has ruled out supporting the use of frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s military spending unless the assets are formally confiscated, citing concerns that such aid could prolong the war.
His stance reflects broader EU challenges in agreeing on a €140 billion loan to Ukraine using asset revenues, a plan stalled by legal and financial objections from Belgium, which hosts most of the assets.
EU leaders are expected to revisit the issue at their December meeting, with unanimity required for any final decision.
