A Mumbai court approved auctioning 13 properties linked to fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi to recover funds from the ₹23,000 crore PNB fraud.
A Mumbai special court has approved the auction of 13 unsecured properties linked to fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, valued at about ₹46 crore as of 2018, to recover assets from the ₹23,000 crore Punjab National Bank fraud.
The assets include flats, commercial units, parking spaces, industrial sheds, and inventory from Gitanjali Gems’ Jaipur facility.
Proceeds will be deposited as fixed deposits in the court’s name until the trial concludes, with ownership and confiscation decisions pending.
The move follows a Belgian court’s ruling allowing Choksi’s extradition on fraud and forgery charges, though he has appealed to Belgium’s Supreme Court.
The auction is a key step in the liquidation of Gitanjali Gems and efforts to recover losses from India’s largest banking scam.
