A man was shot dead in Williamsville during a family dispute, with police calling it an "occurrence" due to intervention.
Stephen Vialva, 37, was fatally shot at his mother’s Williamsville home on November 7 during a family dispute, police say.
Witnesses reported he returned armed and intoxicated, damaging property and threatening relatives.
A 39-year-old male relative intervened, leading to two shots being fired; Vialva died from a gunshot wound to the pelvic area.
The relative sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.
Police recovered a firearm and ammunition at the scene and are classifying the incident as an "occurrence" rather than a homicide, citing the relative’s actions likely prevented further harm.
Vialva had a history of violent behavior and pending charges, including assault and breach of a protection order.
The investigation is ongoing.
