Ireland honored war dead on Remembrance Sunday, with Sinn Féin’s first senior leader attending Belfast’s ceremony.
On Remembrance Sunday, November 9, 2025, Ireland held ceremonies honoring those who died in wars, marking the 107th anniversary of World War One’s end and the 80th anniversary of World War Two’s conclusion.
In Belfast, First Minister Michelle O’Neill became the first senior Sinn Féin leader to attend the Cenotaph wreath-laying, emphasizing unity and respect.
She joined Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly, Ireland’s Minister for Education Helen McEntee, Belfast’s Lord Mayor Tracy Kelly, and UK Secretary of State Hilary Benn.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin attended a service in Enniskillen, laying a wreath on behalf of the Irish government, continuing a tradition since 2013 to honor Irish service members who fought in British forces and commemorating the 1987 Enniskillen bombing.
