Gujarat starts statewide Kharif crop procurement at MSP, ensuring farmers fair prices.
Gujarat has begun statewide procurement of Kharif crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP), launching with an inauguration by Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani in Dehgam. The initiative, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, aims to ensure fair returns for farmers by purchasing groundnut, moong, urad, and soybean worth over Rs 15,000 crore. The MSP for groundnut—Rs 7,263 per quintal—exceeds the current market price of around Rs 5,000, offering farmers a significant premium. The program covers Gujarat’s diverse agro-climatic zones, where Kharif crops occupy over half the cropped area, and is supported by local officials, cooperatives, and thousands of farmers.
