Ghana plans to restart the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment in early 2026, pending successful debt talks with creditors.
Ghana’s government plans to resume the stalled Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment in early 2026, pending completion of its debt-restructuring talks with international creditors.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson confirmed the restart during a November 8, 2025, site visit, calling the project a priority for economic revival in Sekondi-Takoradi.
The redevelopment, halted in March 2023 to meet IMF bailout conditions, aims to modernize a key commercial hub, improve sanitation, reduce traffic, and support thousands of traders.
The contractor had reported up to €30 million in losses during the suspension.
While the government remains committed, actual work depends on successful debt negotiations ahead of the November 13, 2025, budget presentation.
