Arkansas allocates $500K more to food banks amid rising hunger from federal shutdown.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has announced an additional $500,000 in emergency funding for the state’s food banks, bringing the total aid to $1 million since October 31.
The funds, from the state’s Restricted Reserve and approved by the Legislative Council, will be distributed by the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance to six Feeding America-affiliated food banks on November 10.
Priority will be given to areas with high SNAP recipient concentrations.
The move responds to rising food insecurity amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, which has paused SNAP benefits.
