Witney Town Council boosts bus funding to £26,000, sustaining vital transit for seniors and vulnerable residents.
Witney Town Council has added £2,500 to fund the town’s community bus service, bringing its annual contribution to £26,000.
The service, run by not-for-profit WOCT, provides essential transport for older and vulnerable residents, supporting access to healthcare, shopping, and social activities.
The funding comes as Oxfordshire County Council has no additional money to allocate, having redirected its budget elsewhere.
Councillor Ruth Smith called the buses a lifeline, and WOCT’s CEO praised the council’s ongoing support in maintaining sustainable, reliable transit amid rising costs.
