The UK Ministry of Defence has identified 52 previously unknown British and Commonwealth soldiers from World War I and II using historical research and DNA analysis, with 85 total service members now formally recognized.
The effort, led by the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, included 74 from WWI and 11 from WWII, such as Trooper Francis Dominic, killed at 19 in 1944, and Serjeant William Augustus Fritz, who died in the war’s first action in 1914.
