Russia denies reports that Foreign Minister Lavrov was sidelined, calling the claims false despite his absence from recent events.
The Kremlin has denied reports that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has been sidelined, calling the speculation false despite his absence from recent high-level meetings and the delegation of his G20 summit duties to another official.
Lavrov, who has served as foreign minister for over two decades, has not had his travel plans disclosed for two consecutive weeks, fueling rumors about his standing.
The speculation followed the cancellation of a planned Putin-Trump summit, which Trump said was called off because it “just didn’t feel right,” citing disagreements over Ukraine.
The U.S. reportedly withdrew due to Russia’s hardline demands, with some reports suggesting Lavrov’s conduct during talks contributed to the breakdown.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Lavrov remains in his position and is actively serving as foreign minister.
Rusia niega los informes de que el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores Lavrov fue marginado, calificando las afirmaciones de falsas a pesar de su ausencia en los eventos recientes.
