A Polish woman was jailed for harassing Madeleine McCann’s parents with false claims of being her kidnapped daughter.
A 24-year-old Polish woman, Julia Wandelt, was found guilty of harassment for repeatedly contacting the parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann, including sending messages, making calls, and visiting their home while falsely claiming to be Madeleine.
She cited hypnotically induced memories of being abducted in 2007 and living with the family, and told her father she was not his daughter.
Though acquitted of stalking, she was sentenced to six months in prison—less than the time already served—and ordered deported, with a five-year restraining order due to a risk of future harassment.
Her co-defendant, Karen Spragg, was acquitted.
The McCanns said they wanted only the harassment to end and urged anyone with new information about Madeleine’s disappearance to contact police.
