A Polish woman was jailed for impersonating missing Madeleine McCann and harassing her parents, who sought only to end the ordeal.
Julia Wandelt, a 24-year-old Polish woman, was found guilty of harassment for repeatedly contacting the McCanns, falsely claiming to be their missing daughter Madeleine, sending messages, and visiting their home.
Though acquitted of stalking, she was sentenced to six months in prison—less than time already served—and ordered deported, with a five-year restraining order due to a significant risk of future harassment.
The McCanns said they wanted only to end the ordeal, not to seek punishment, and urged anyone with new information about Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance to contact police.
Co-defendant Karen Spragg was acquitted.
