flag A New Zealand woman was jailed for forging documents and lying under oath in a years-long fraud scheme.

Sally-Kae French, a woman from Ōtorohanga, was sentenced to prison for a years-long fraud campaign involving forged documents and false evidence submitted to tribunals and courts. From 2016, she fabricated emails from government agencies like the SPCA and Whakatāne District Council to win a tenancy dispute, defraud insurers and NZTA, and falsely claim property. She lied under oath about being threatened and coerced another person into taking blame, resulting in a co-offender’s conviction. Judge Kim Saunders condemned her actions as malicious and intentional, noting her refusal to accept responsibility. The victim, a former friend who tried to help her, was left deeply affected. French admitted to 19 charges including forgery, perjury, and attempting to pervert justice.
