A 50-mile circular horse riding route along the Saint Aelred’s Pilgrim Trail in North Yorkshire officially opened on November 8, 2025, connecting nine historic churches and passing Rievaulx Abbey.
Developed with the Ryedale Bridleways Group and supported by the British Horse Society, the trail was launched with a celebration at the abbey featuring a ribbon-cutting by Peter Wright of The Yorkshire Vet, 22 riders, volunteers, and medieval re-enactors.
The route, detailed in a new guidebook, winds through moors, valleys, and villages, highlighting autumn scenery and heritage sites.
Organizers credited partnerships with English Heritage and local supporters for the project’s success, emphasizing its role in promoting outdoor recreation and community engagement.
