The work, targeting aging tracks, points, cabling, and signaling on the southern approach, includes replacing 11 sets of points, renewing 9,000 meters of cabling, and upgrading sleepers. No trains from the south and east will access the station, with services rerouted to Stockport and some northern routes, including Manchester Airport, affected. Platforms 1–12 will close, but the concourse and limited westbound services from platforms 13 and 14 will remain open.
