A Jasper man died at Angelina County Jail after being returned from a hospital stay, despite medical staff warnings.
Tony Jerome Irvine, a 54-year-old Jasper man, died Thursday at the Angelina County Jail after being returned from a hospital stay.
He had been hospitalized since Monday following a medical emergency, remained sedated for several days, and became agitated upon waking.
Despite medical staff advising against it, he demanded discharge and removed medical equipment.
Transported back to the jail around 8:27 p.m., his condition rapidly worsened minutes later, prompting CPR and a return to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was awaiting transfer to state prison to serve a one-year sentence for felony theft.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
