Ethan Wayne Rogers sentenced to 10 years to life for attacking a law enforcement officer at a gas station in 2022.
Ethan Wayne Rogers, 36, of Fort Payne, Alabama, was sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole followed by 10 years of probation for aggravated assault and theft after nearly running over a 40-year law enforcement veteran, Andrew Hairston, at a Wildwood gas station on January 3, 2022.
Rogers, who stole a 2015 Honda Accord and fled at high speed, was shot in the abdomen by Hairston’s son, Investigator Joshua Hairston, to stop the vehicle.
Both officers provided on-scene aid, and Rogers survived.
The two-day trial concluded with the sentence reflecting the severity of the attack on law enforcement.
Prosecutors highlighted the danger posed to public safety.
