Alaska's top court disbarred former federal judge Joshua Kindred for misconduct, including lying and inappropriate relationships, leading to overturned convictions.
The Alaska Supreme Court has disbarred former federal judge Joshua Kindred, the first in state history to lose his license, over a pattern of sexualized relationships with two federal prosecutors—including a former law clerk—and creating a hostile work environment.
The decision, based on a 67-page order and a federal judicial council report, cited lies to investigators, including about nude photos sent by a prosecutor, and misconduct that led to at least two overturned convictions and dozens of cases under review.
Kindred resigned in 2024 after admitting to lying and has been ordered to pay $1,000 in fees, repay client funds, and complete ethics training before seeking reinstatement.
