A Zimbabwe man was jailed after trying to seize a guard’s rifle at the presidential residence, shouting for the president.
A man named Moses Ruvheneko was remanded in custody in Harare after appearing in court on November 7, 2025, on charges of attempting to disarm a security officer at Zimbabwe House, the presidential residence.
The incident occurred on November 4, around 3 p.m., when Ruvheneko, described as having no fixed address, entered a restricted pedestrian zone on Chancellor Road, approached a guard, and tried to seize an SKS rifle while shouting, “Where is ED?
I want to see ED.” A struggle ensued, resulting in a bayonet injury to his left hand.
He was taken to Five Avenue Police Station, and the State opposed bail due to concerns over witness interference and his lack of ties.
Magistrate Ruth Moyo ordered a mental health evaluation.
Ruvheneko faces two charges under Zimbabwe’s Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act: criminal trespass and disorderly conduct in a public place.
