A 55-year-old man from Victoria, accused of leading a major drug trafficking network, was arrested in the Northern Territory after a three-year manhunt.
He fled in August after learning of an investigation into a syndicate importing billions in precursor chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine and MDMA.
Police found him using a fake ID during a search at a holiday park, following reports of counterfeit money use.
He was extradited to Victoria and charged with trafficking large commercial quantities of MDMA and conspiring to traffic methamphetamine.
The investigation, which began in November 2022 after a shipment disguised as perfume was intercepted, led to the seizure of 20 tonnes of precursors worth $2.5 billion, over 60 kilograms of P2P, 20 kilograms of methamphetamine, and six kilograms of pure MDMA.
Three large drug labs were dismantled, and six other suspects were arrested, including one caught attempting to smuggle MDMA onto the Spirit of Tasmania.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to pursuing criminal networks regardless of time or location and urged the public to report drug-related activity through Crime Stoppers.
