The West Bengal government has made singing the state song 'Banglar Mati Banglar Jal,' written by Rabindranath Tagore, mandatory in all government and aided schools during morning assemblies.
The directive, issued by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and confirmed by Education Minister Bratya Basu, follows a 2023 state Assembly resolution designating the song as the official state anthem.
