A UK nurse lost her job after pleading guilty to drunk driving, receiving a 14-month ban and fine.
Emma Williams, a 44-year-old NHS care co-ordinator from Malmesbury, lost her job after pleading guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit in Chippenham on October 17.
She was stopped on Bristol Road after her vehicle was linked to an unrelated incident; a breath test showed she was nearly double the legal limit.
Williams, with no prior convictions, told the court she was rushing home to her children after a family crisis and did not intend to drive.
Her defense cited her role caring for her alcohol-dependent husband and the lack of public transport in her rural area.
The judge imposed a 14-month driving ban—shorter than the typical 17 months—along with a £200 fine, £80 surcharge, and £85 in prosecution costs, and offered a course that could reduce the ban by 14 weeks.
She will now claim universal credit while seeking new employment.
