The sentence, based on California’s Three Strikes Law, follows a crash on Highway 101 where Johnson drove the wrong way, hit multiple vehicles, and fled the scene.
He was arrested after leaving a hospital without permission and later convicted on multiple charges tied to the incident and his prior felony convictions, including four strikes from a 2009 robbery that resulted in a fatal shooting.
Though his murder and firearm convictions were overturned in 2022 due to changes in the felony murder law, he remains subject to the Three Strikes Law.
