New Zealand Customs seized 35 kilograms of cocaine, worth up to NZ$12.25 million, hidden in a refrigeration unit of a shipping container at Port Chalmers in Dunedin.
The container, from South America, was flagged by Customs Intelligence before arrival on October 26, 2025.
The drugs, branded with “LCST” and linked to the Lacoste label, were found inside an empty refrigerator container.
This marks the first major cocaine seizure for Customs in Dunedin and highlights the agency’s intelligence-led efforts to secure all ports.
Officials stressed the importance of partnerships and public vigilance in combating transnational crime.
