A new workforce training center, Cornerstone, opened in Richland County, South Carolina, to prepare local residents for thousands of jobs at Scout Motors’ upcoming electric vehicle plant near Columbia.
Funded by state, county, and technical college contributions, the $5 million facility offers pre- and post-hire training in manufacturing roles and is part of the state’s readySC initiative.
Scout Motors cited the partnership with readySC as a key reason for choosing South Carolina, where 97% of new jobs have historically gone to in-state residents.
The center, the first used by Scout Motors, supports economic growth and workforce readiness, with similar centers already operating in the Lowcountry.
