Kieran Fogarty sentenced to 13 years for 2023 hit-and-run that killed Joe Drennan, after appeal increased original term.
Kieran Fogarty, 21, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison—five years more than his original eight-year term—after Ireland’s Court of Appeal ruled his sentence for killing 21-year-old student Joe Drennan in a 2023 hit-and-run was unduly lenient.
The increase follows a prosecution appeal over concurrent sentences for multiple offenses, including a drive-by shooting and drug possession.
CCTV and phone footage showed Fogarty speeding at 122 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, striking Drennan, then wiping down his car.
The court emphasized the deliberate nature of his actions and the lasting trauma on Drennan’s family.
The final year of his sentence is suspended, meaning he will serve 13 years.
