India’s SEBI to review outdated market rules to boost efficiency and global alignment.
SEBI Chair Tuhin Kanta Pandey announced on November 7, 2025, that the regulator will form a working group to review India’s short-selling and Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) frameworks, last updated in 2007 and 2008, respectively, to improve market efficiency and align with global standards.
The review will also cover Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) 2015, settlement rules, and buyback norms.
Pandey emphasized a data-driven, consultative approach, highlighting strong domestic investor participation and market resilience despite foreign portfolio investor outflows.
He declined to confirm a ban on weekly F&O expiries, stating the current system functions well and any changes would follow broad consultations.
