India launches its first homegrown marine engine monitoring system, boosting efficiency and sustainability.
Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and Neptunus have partnered to develop India’s first indigenous condition-based maintenance (CBM) marine engine monitoring system under the 'Make in India' initiative.
Announced at Maritime India Week 2025, the collaboration includes IRS granting Type Approval Certification to Neptunus for two homegrown technologies: VIB 360 and Torque Sense SHAPOLI, marking the first time a classification society has certified fully Indian-made marine engine solutions.
The system, developed in Mumbai, enables real-time engine diagnostics, reducing unplanned downtime, cutting maintenance costs by up to 30%, improving fuel efficiency, and lowering emissions.
The project supports India’s Digital Maritime Vision and Green Shipping goals, advancing national standards for CBM and positioning India as a rising force in global maritime technology.
