A historic Johnstown building will become supportive housing for young men with autism, pending final approval.
The former Willing Helpers home in Johnstown, a historic building that housed elderly women for 114 years, has received conditional approval to become a 6-unit, 18-bed supportive housing facility for young men with autism and learning differences.
The Arc Lexington’s Lexington Foundation, which acquired the property in July, plans to use the 9,400-square-foot building for its Transition program, helping post-secondary students build life skills and independence.
Funded by a $977,000 Mohawk Valley Empowers Program grant, the project aims to support young adults in transitioning to adulthood and employment.
Final city approval is pending, with construction expected to begin soon.
